Tips & Tricks to quiet down the PC
|
Here is some useful information, that will
help you to quieten your system.
|
- Laser printer
When purchasing a laser printer or a laserfax-combi device please pay attention that the device is fanless.
There are appliances which not only generate noise when printing but also in stand-by. We can recommend the
combi device HP Laserjet 3200 which is very quiet and of good quality.
- Screens
We recommend that you generally abandon CRT screens. The sound of your screen will be more noticeable
now that your PC is absolutely silent. Large format high quality TFT-screens are now available
at reasonable prices.
Attention: Some TFT screens generate high-frequency buzzing! In doubt pre-examine at your
dealer or agree 'sale or return'.
- TFT/DVI
If you want maximum quality, you should use DVI as the screen signal will be transferred digitally.
When using analogue VGA-access the signal has to be converted twice, once on the graphic card and once in the
screen. This results in loss of quality performance.
- DVD- and CD-Drives...
These drives can become very loud as they travel at speed. The reading rate of most of the drives is far below
the theoretical value (up to 52-fold) that would justify the high revolution speed.
CD and DVD drives can rotate considerably slower without any loss of speed when retrieving data.
A single speed drive will suffice when playing music or video-CDs and DVDs. At this speed the drive is practically inaudible.
A good program to lower the noise of drives is:
CD-Bremse von Jörg Fiebelkorn
CD-ROM Tool
This program will limit the revolution of CD and DVD-drives
